Mexican Immigrant – Alejandra Campoverdi – For Congress

She is Running: “I know what it really takes to fight for even your right to the American Dream.”

A native Angeleno, Alejandra Campoverdi was raised by a single mother and by her grandmother who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Growing up, Alejandra experienced firsthand the struggles many families in our district still face today: unemployment and poverty, lack of access to quality education and affordable healthcare, and the heartbreak of an immigration system and a juvenile justice system in desperate need of compassionate reform.

Guided by the example set by her mother and grandmother, Alejandra worked diligently to challenge the potential limitations of her upbringing, and committed herself to forging a path towards education and public service. With the help of various nonprofits and pipeline programs, she attended Saint Monica School for thirteen years, then graduated cum laude from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at USC.

Alejandra’s passionate commitment to advocate for the advancement of underrepresented communities led to her work for The California Endowment’s Agricultural Worker Health Initiative, where she worked to improve the health and living conditions of California’s agricultural workers. Alejandra went on to receive her Master of Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
