#TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia Campaign Raises $2.5 Million for Somalia Famine Relief

Jerome Jarre, Casey Neistat, Ben Stiller, and others create #TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia

This past week, what was a simple idea from Jerome Jarre turned into a viral campaign to help famine victims in Somalia.  Using a GoFundMe page, this group – including #BenStiller, #ColinKaepernick, YouTube star #JuanpaZarita, #jeromejarr, #redhourben and #CasetNeistat raised over $2.5 million and rising. The group used the moniker hashtag #TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia.  Originally started by Jerome Jarre, who is widely followed on social media such as Snapchat, picked up steam after its original March 15 start.  The idea was to get Turkish Airlines to deliver a plane full of food and supplies to famine victims in Somalia.

According to the GoFundMe page, Turkish Airlines is making available a full cargo flight that can fly 60 TONS OF FOOD, as well as “they agreed to let us ship food containers on their commercial aircraft to Somalia, UNTIL THE END OF THE FAMINE !!!”

#turkishairlineshelpsololiaThe campaign originators stated “One airplane at a time – one shipment at a time !!!

We are learning how to help NOW, starting with one point of impact.

Right now, we’ve proved how much our power doesn’t mean much individually, but has the potential to move mountains (AIRPLANES!!!) when we UNITE !

That’s why we’ve decided to raise money all together.  Our cargo of 60  Tones will fly to Somalia in 10 DAYS !!

Which means we have 10 days to find 60 tons of food!!”

Neistat, who recently made a deal with CNN for $25 million dollars – CNN – Casey Neistat – is famous for making unique videos detailing various aspects of life.  This is no different.

In Somalia, the cycle of long droughts, followed by famines has been going on for many decades. Now, more than five million Somalis need immediate assistance in order to prevent another famine. “This drought has created the biggest displacement of people in the country,” said Adan Adar, the country director of the American Refugee Committee.  Somalia Famine

Currently, Turkish Airlines, based in Istanbul, is the only international airline that flies to the Somali capital of Mogadishu. Law Firm salutes #TurkishAirlinesHelpSomalia.
